cold colours news

friday august 19, 2008

to say i have been slacking is an understatemement. it's very sifficult to remember the site when i am always on the myspace site. but believe it or not, not everyone is on myspace. and well, j. kicked me in the ass to get this updated so i am.

first off we are back to being a full band. the band now consists of brian on vox and guitar, mason on drums. in may we added the talent of mr J. ADAIR to our ranks who some of you may know from RISINGFALL. and recently we added a new guitarist by the name of RYAN FELGEN who you can check out in his other band GHOSTWOOD PROJECT.

while we are getting ryan up to speed, our old friend lance vien is helping us out again. after doing a great job last saturday, he will again be playing with us at the ROOT OF ALL EVIL MEMORIAL METAL MASSACRE on friday august 29 at first avenue. we will also be joined for one night only by our ex-keyboardist JON RAYL! this night is a memorial to our godfather of all mr. EARL ROOT. so DO NOT MISS IT!!!. check our shows page for more!

in november we are going to start work on our new cd. the cd will be a collection of out of print tracks, live recordings, as well as some brand spankin new material! we will be remixing our 3 ep's (2007's in solitude reborn, 2006's demo and 2003's depressing the masses) which are all gone bye bye for inclusion as well. we hope to have it done by early spring

cold colours is back! after a year and a half of stagnant and scattered goings on - we are now back to being a full fledged wuss metal machine! can't wait for the future!

monday december 3,  2007

ok, i realize that this site is not updated very much and i appologize. sometimes the best bet is to just go to the myspace page as it is a lot easier to edit!

so 2 nights agao we played our 5th and final show of the year - with the 5th different line up! as many know, rick stallkamp and mason neste are now bona-fide COLD CUTS, but i want to thank lance, muffin, kyle, jamie, tommy and joey for playing shows with us this year. the shows have been great and made me feel like this change with COLD COLOURS has been the right one.

right now i have been shopping around the new demo to labels looking for a new deal. gettin' is slow so nothing to report there - but i remain optimistic. there is easily a full album to be recorded but i don't want to spend money to record another full length just to have it sit in my basement with the others.

for right now, we will not be playing again until may. however i am sure something will come up. just probably not locally. FYI - the show is opening for the mighty CANDLEMASS so you can see how i can't say no to that one!

i am working on a new website though, so stay tuned to that as well. new band, new direction, new look naturally!

that's all for now. i want to thank everyone who made 2007 a good year even if the activity in the band has not been as active as usual.

saturday march 17,  2007

first and foremost, i want to thank all who attended glen and lance's farewell acoustic show. it was so cool to see so many people who cared about COLD COLOURS to send that chapter off. but mostly i want to thank glen and lance for their time and effort with me!

i also want to thank muffin, jon, paul, joe, anne, nick, dave and todd for their time with the band. 6 years of being on the local scene had its ups and downs - but it is an experience that i would never take back! but the time of being a local gigging band is done. as much as i love all of our friends in the scene, it just seemed to be redundant to play the same shows (what they felt like) and never getting that "big break" so it is time to start a new chapter with the project.

i am currently working with my FORGOTTEN SUN bandmate jamie strobach recording a new ep that will hopefully be done this summer. it will feature 3 new songs, a reworking of "autumn reign" and the 2 songs that were originally featured on the long out of print ROOTS compilation from 1998.

as far as live shows, i have talked to a few people to help out with live shows. however, they will just be live members and they will more than likely change from show to show. i understand that this is very selfish of me, but i feel that i need to be in control of the decisions again 100%. i have had a vision for the band since i started it 11 years ago and i feel that it was starting to get away from that. there will hopefully be a show this summer in town, but it is not definite yet. hopefully the local crowd can still accept the new COLD COLOURS. one of the many things i am redoing is i am planning on getting 2 guitarists so i can concentrate 100% on vocals for live shows. i feel it will be alot stronger if i can just focus on singing rather that guitar as well..

i understand that there are still alot of questions regarding the new COLD COLOURS and i welcome any inquiries that any of you may have, so ask away!

hope to see you all again!

friday february 2, 2006

as most of you know i have decided to throw in the towel with COLD COLOURS being a working band unit. as many of you prolly hate me for doing it, keep in mind it was not something i wanted to do. the 3 of us have been very blah since muffin quit and every time we would show up to practice it was like a chore. there was absolutely no life left in us, which sucks because i love those guys. so rather than continue on the path we were on - get a new bass player, but still have the same issues. i decided to end it. like glen and lance both said; it was only a matter of time til the quit the band. so for the time being COLD COLOURS will go back to being a studio project. however, there will be a live lineup to do shows - there will just be no more "local" shows. only playing live for nationals, festivals, benefits, WORTH WHILE road trips, etc. so stay tuned. stay tuned.

Friends and Fans of Cold Colours

For the last year and a half, iv'e been the bassist of Cold Colours, and have toured many different states, played many national shows, and made many new friends.
But as of lastnight I have decided to step down from Cold Colours, for Personal/Professional reason. Im lucky enough to have been in a band with people that are understanding, and couldent ask for better friends than that.
For now im going to be filling for the next couple months, and am going to finish out any local shows we have right now. There is talk of a farewell show, and will let you know more of that when the time comes. I just want to say, you all have been supportive, and made not only me, but all of Cold Colours feel welcome in the local scene, and I have made some great friends, and I couldent ask for anything more!

          Thank you all!

Statement from Jon:

It is with a heavy heart that I write this.

I have spent the past 3 years with Cold Colours, having joined after a night of drunken ridiculousness. It has been quite a ride ever since. I have learned a great deal, had some great times, and I don't think Ive ever played with a better group of guys. I saw a lot of potential in this band from the word go, and have always believed that the band would do great things. I am proud to have been a part of it.

However, as the band explores new directions, the philosophy and vision have changed a bit, and I find that my heart just isn't in it any more. The band is growing, and I simply have not been on the same page. Rather than hold the guys back, I have made the decision to step down and make room for someone that will be more apt to helping the band move forward.

This was not a decision that I made lightly. I have discussed the matter with the band several times, and ultimately it is a situation that isn't good for any of us. I have full confidence that this split will help everyone involved move forward in a more positive light.

I would like to thank Brian, Glen, Joe, Paul, Lance, and Andy for giving me some unforgettable experiences, and I would like to thank all the fans that have supported the band throughout the years. This is an amicable split, and I wish the guys in Cold Colours the best of luck.

Sincerely,
-Jon Rayl

The remaining members of COLD COLOURS would like to wish Jon the best of luck on whatever he decides to do with his musical career. The split is amicable, there are no hard feelings at all.

It is also the decision of the band to continue on as a 4-piece.

Jon's farewell show will be on Friday June 23rd at Station 4

wow, it has been a while. the big news of course is that we are hitting the road with IMPALER. the tour will start in st. paul with our 10-year anniversary show and go for 2 weeks. go to the shows page to view the dates. so far we are about half booked so spread the word. keep checking back for more updated dates!

saturday october 22, 2005

howz about an update then eh?

we have been gigging hard in the last 2 months but we are winding down. saturday october 29th will be the last show in town for a while. it will also mark the first time both of brian's bands will share the same stage (brian also plays bass for FORGOTTEN SUN.) he is also one of the promoters for this metal fest so get down there. go to www.reapersball.com for all the details.

in case you have yet to see us in our new incarnation, we have been getting nothing but positive feedback. lance and andy are a great fit for the band and it shows in our chemistry on and off stage.

after the next couple of shows, we will be taking some time off to work on new material and get the newbies up to speed on our back catalog. also we are prepping for the 10 year anniversary of COLD COLOURS / WOLFTHORN. expect us to come back with a huge anniversary show which so far will also feature our bros IMPALER. also, there will be a 10 year retrospective CD entitled "decade of depression" which will feature demo, live, rare and unreleased material from the last 10 years. see you soon!

wednesday august 10, 2005

and now, ladies and gentleman. we would like to announce that we have been joined by andy oltmanns on bass! the new lineup is now complete. we were playing in superior last weekend with andy filling in for us and while brian was introducing the band, andy whispered in his ear that he was officially joining cold colours. choice!

friday july 22, 2005

well it finally happened. and if you consider a "cheers" official as we do...

lance vien(ex-epicurean, ex-risingfall) has come on board as our permanent guitarist. we are very happy with this decision as no one would be able to fit this band as well as he does. lance has already played 2 shows with us before and has always made sense to us. i am sure anyone who knows us and him agree. and we could not agree with you more than we already do! (that was for you glen).

wednesday june 22, 2005

well we will be hitting the live circuit again shortly. lance is back on board filling in on guitar for as long as we need him. we also have a fill in bass player named andy whom some may recognize from SECTION HATE. Stay tuned to the shows page for more details.

sunday june 12, 2005

i want to thank the droves of people who came out last night. it was by far the best experience that i have had in the 10 years i have been doing this band.

thank you to STATION 4 for being the most professional and coolest club we have ever played for. for anyone who still holds the old business handlings against them, GET OVER IT! this is one of the few clubs we have left. support them!

thank you to AESMA DAEVA, CWN ANNWN, REVELENCE and THE MOMENT for making the night awesome

however the biggest thanx goes to our brothers joe and paul who played their last show with us last night. there were many a teary eye in the club including me! (thank god for stage sweat covering mine!) you both will be missed more than you can know!

i will never forget the show, it was by far the highlight of my musical career!

sunday may 8, 2005

a big thank you to lance vien for filling in for us again at the urban show. it was a HUGE night and it was a blast to play with you again!

sunday april 3, 2005

IT”S ACTUALLY HAPPENING!!! the release date for the new COLD COLOURS full length cd “the burden of hope” is june 14th with a cd release show planned for Saturday june 11th at station 4 in st. paul, mn. check back soon for all the details!

monday february 28, 2005

COLD COLOURS in it’s current incarnation has been going for over 2 years now. joe and glen joined the band in early 2002 followed by paul in september and jon in november of that year. however the CC camp now has a lineup change to announce.

unfortunately due to scheduling and availability conflicts, we have to say goodbye to our brothers joseph reaven dunne (bass) and paul anthony (guitar.) the era has been great, but a change is due. we hope to stay close with our friends, but it is a task that needed to be done.

sunday december 5, 2004

ok, its a-finally time, almost.
the new COLD COLOURS full length album "the burden of hope" is nearing competion. it should finally see the dark of day in january/february with a HUGE cd release show in the works. it has been almost 6 years since "somnium XIII" and we are very excited to unleash the new chapter.
